Abstract:
Annotation. Introduction. This article presents the results of a study examining the challenges of teaching reading to foreign students with difficulties mastering this skill. Reading is considered a fundamental speech activity that influences the development of communicative and professional competencies in foreign students. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that methods for diagnosing and correcting reading disorders were developed for native Russian speakers and are therefore not suitable for foreign students. Therefore, teachers of Russian as a foreign language need to independently diagnose the difficulties encountered by students in this group and develop a special approach to overcoming such problems. Methods. To achieve the objectives of the study, an analysis of the scientific literature on the topic of the study was conducted and the information obtained was synthesized. Observation and self-assessment methods were used, and a pedagogical experiment was conducted at an educational institution of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Results. As a solution to the problem under study, the development of a special methodology aimed at foreign students is proposed. An approach to identifying the difficulties they encounter at the initial stage of mastering the Russian language has been developed, and a method for teaching such students to read has been tested.
