Introduction. The article provides an analysis of the mechanisms that enable police officers to recognise hazardous situations at transport infrastructure facilities, and highlights the methodological need for a contemporary synthesis of scientific approaches, including those addressing the “hard problem of consciousness” (G. V. Akopov, T. Honderich, A. Revonsuo, D. I. Dubrovsky, G. Miller et al.). The methodological basis of the study is the concept of “stream of consciousness”, encompassing both empirical and transcendental consciousness within the context of a general understanding of the flow (stream) as a state of deep immersion in an activity. The article presents an attempt to elucidate the phenomenon of transcendental consciousness and the “position of conscious understanding of a situation beyond the flow”. The specific nature of service at transport infrastructure facilities requires police officers to possess a particular kind of attention, imagination and way of thinking, involving conscious vigilance and the ability of recognising hazardous events as well as poly-modal perception of situations and the assessment of risks and threats. At the same time, “flow culture” contributes to ensuring routine service activities, and helps to identify risky behaviour in observed objects according to criteria of deviation from accepted norms. The research aims to examine the process of transformation of the metaphorical construct “diving consciousness” as a dialectical complex of structures of personal psychological architecture, and service experience of police officers, making it possible to predict and assess passengers in terms of criteria related to risky or threatening behaviour through the mechanisms of imagination and “close examination of the inner depths of personality”. As a result of the theoretical research, the authors conclude that transcendence (M. Mamardashvili et al.) facilitates the integration of empirical and transcendental consciousness, as well as the person’s ability to transcend beyond reality in order to assess the level of threat and reproduce the system of norms. Only a psychologically free person with transcendental experience within a symbolically rich stream of consciousness is capable of realising transcendence (S. L. Katrechko).
